Your Young Child

An invitation to learn

In both NH and MA you do not need to report on homeschooling a child who is not yet 6 by September 30 of that year. This means preschool, preK and Kindergarten are not mandatory. For most of the time in the Young Child Room your child will not need to document. For children who are 6, please refer to your state law. This is a parent participation program so you will see everything your child learns.

We understand that even before mandatory reporting parents want to keep track of learning. The best way to do this is to create a portfolio. Some families may prefer to keep track by photos, by a journal or by other means. This is a wonderful option.

Others may choose to do annual standardized testing for their 6 or 7 year old. In this case books like Brain Quest K, 1 or 2 may help guide a parent to understand what the test may be covering. Keep in mind that well rounded children often excel even when they don’t study for the test because they naturally cover what they need out of pure interest.
